Old railroads will revive

Has been approved by the Public Works Committee of the Senate, the bill proposing the reuse of disused or in-use railways placed in particularly valuable natural and archaeological areas, including railway tracks, stations, and related works of art and pertinence, in addition to historical and tourist convoys enabled to travel.

In line with the Strategic Tourism Plan, a decree will be issued by the Minister of Infrastructure in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Ministry, which will establish the railway lines, many of which date back to the end of the nineteenth century.

With this measure, Italian Government demonstrates its strong interest in investing in sustainable mobility, offering new job opportunities at the same time.

The proposal provides for the possibility of circulating so-called railcars, pedestrian or rail-assisted vehicles on discontinued or suspended railway lines; All this by avoiding any form of promiscuity with the train traffic.

The lines for tourist use among which will be identified those which are the subject of:
· Sulmona-Castel di Sangro;
· Cosenza-San Giovanni in Fiore;
· Avellino-Lioni-Rocchetta Sant’Antonio;
· Sacile-Gemona;
· Palazzolo-Paratico;
· Castel di Sangro-Carpinone;
· Ceva-Ormea;
· Mandas-Arbatax;
· Isili-Sorgono;
· Sassari-Palau Marina
· Macomer-Bosa;
· Alcantara-Randazzo;
· Castelvetrano-Porto Palo di Menfi;
· Agrigento Bassa-Porto Empedocle;
· Noto-Pachino;
· Asciano-Monte Antico;
· Civitavecchia-Capranica-Orte;
· Fano-Urbino.
